Dumping and Material Logging

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

Material that is dumped on the topography is taken from the active material log. The leftmost column in the General Log is the Contents field. Excavated material volume is shown in the Contents field (as well as other relevant fields). This material appears in the log as a result of the excavation process, or by the user manually adding material. This field represents material that has been excavated but not yet dumped.

For example, The figure below shows the Logged Material dialog box with 21,565 bank cubic metres (BCM) in the Contents field for the pre-strip log.

The pre-strip material is excavated material in the active material log that is waiting to be dumped. During the dumping process, material will “flow” from the contents field. It will be dumped onto the topography as specified by the controlling dump template.

The flow of material from the material log onto the surface occurs in a series of discrete steps. The volume of each step set by the Discrete Dump Volume parameter (Dump Settings dialog box). If the discrete dump volume is 1,000 BCM, then the first increment will take 1,000 BCM from the pre-strip log and reduce its contents to 20,567 BCM. This 1,000 BCM parcel will be dumped on the topography and the next 1,000 will be taken from the log and dumped. The dumping process continues until the log is emptied, a constraint limits the dump or the user halts the dump with the Esc key or right mouse button. The progress of dumping is reported in the status bar as “Percent Done”:

Material is always dumped as loose cubic metres (LCM). For example, if a log contains 10,000 BCM of material with a swell of 1.25 and all this material is dumped, the volume contained between the pre-dumped and post-dumped surfaces will be 12,500 cubic metres.

Each time a particular Dump Template is used to perform dumping operation, a record is created in the associated General Logs history. When the the History for a particular Log is viewed each instance when a Dump Template is used to dump material will appear as an entry in the history.
