Grid Parameters

This dialog box sets parameters for calculating a Terrain Grid for a Surface.

Triangulation of Surface Data is a necessary preliminary step for calculating a Terrain Grid for the Surface. Triangulation is calculated through the Triangulation Parameters dialog box.

Surface Name

This is the name of the Surface for which a Terrain Grid is to be calculated.

Gridded Region

This provides information on the coordinate range of the Terrain Grid for the chosen surface. The region can be thought of as the smallest rectangular box into which all the grid points will fit.

Grid Step

This is the distance between successive points in the Terrain Grid, in the East or North direction.

The default value of grid step is initially set to 5m. It may be a changed through the Terrain/Editor Settings menu item. This opens the Terrain Editor Settings notebook, whose Grid Page contains the default value.

The grid step initially displayed is the default value. If a grid calculation has been carried out on the chosen surface then the displayed grid step is the value used to calculate the existing Surface Grid.

Calculate Grid button

This button calculates the Terrain Grid for the chosen surface.

Close button

This button closes the Grid Parameters dialog box.

Back button

This button opens the Triangulation Parameters dialog box.

Calculation of a Terrain Grid is always carried out after triangulation.

Should the Surface Data change or the triangulation’s feature fill distance need changing, then re-triangulation will be necessary prior to grid calculation.
