Using the Excavate Roads Function

The primary use of Roads in 3d-Dig is to create road structures for use in truck and shovel simulation. Most typically the main haul roads will exist on the topography at the time the roads are created, and the access roads will be excavated or dumped in the correct form as the simulation proceeds. Hence the road horizontal and vertical alignments are used to create haul routes for simulation but are not typically used to design roads on topography.

The road functionality can however be used to modify the topography to impose the road design. The procedures used are essentially the same as those previously described for road creation. However when the roads are to be imposed on the topography the cross-sectional parameters (road width, cross fall and batter angles) must be set up correctly. Once the road is fully designed and parameters set the Excavate Road button is used and the system will  excavate and fill as required to impose the road design on the topography.
